Akiban Technical Overview
Akiban Server supports Schemas, Tables and Columns like all relational databases, but adds an additional concept: table-groups. The logical model supports all the concepts of MySQL without change, so SQL queries like the one in this paper work unchanged (just much faster!). But under the hood, the physical model uses table-groups to optimize the data-storage.
